The 1961 Minnesota Twins.  The 1961 season was the inaugural season for the Minnesota Twins.  Known prior as the Washington Senators, they relocated by Calvin Griffith to Minneapolis-St. Paul and became the Minnesota Twins. The Minnesota Twins finished the season with a record of 70-90-1 which ranked 7th in the American league.  This was two positions higher than the new Washington Senator expansion team who finished 9th and lost 100 games.  Twins manager Harry "Cookie" Lavagetto was replaced by Same Mele 60 games into the season.  Home to the Twins, Metropolitan Stadium saw 1,256,723 spectators walk through their gates during their first season, which was 3rd highest in the American League.
